The Opening Tip The Starting Five MSU In The Big Ten Tournament - The Spartans are looking to capture their third Big Ten Tournament championship. In nine years of the Big Ten Tournament, MSU has a record of 9-6. The Spartans won the tournament in 1999 and 2000, and lost in the quarterfinals in 1998, 2001, 2002 and 2005. MSU lost in the semifinals in 2003 and 2004. This is the first year in which Michigan State will play on the opening day of the tournament. MSU is 4-4 in quarterfinal games.
