Nick Ward to Submit Name for NBA Draft Early Entry
East Lansing, Mich. - Michigan State men's basketball sophomore forward Nick Ward will submit his name for the 2018 NBA Draft, but will not hire an agent.
Ward will put his name into the NBA Draft, making him eligible to be selected in the June 21 draft. He will be able to start attending workouts with teams April 24 and is eligible to compete in the NBA Draft Combine, if selected, from May 16-20 in Chicago. He then has 10 days (May 30 deadline) to weigh his options and keep his name in or withdraw and return to Michigan State.
"I fully support Nick's decision to take the opportunity to explore his draft stock," Head Coach Tom Izzo said. "He has continued to improve and worked very hard over the last two years to put himself in this position. The process will allow him to receive direct feedback and an assessment as to where he stands in his dream to play at the highest level."
In 35 games this season, Ward finished third on the team in scoring with 12.4 points per game and led the team with 7.1 rebounds, which ranked eighth in the Big Ten Conference. He connected on 64.8 percent of his field goals, which ranked second in the Big Ten. Ward was an All-Big Ten Third Team selection by the media and an honorable mention selection by the coaches.
