The 2008-09 Spartans posted a 31-7 record, advancing to the Final Four for the fifth time in the last 11 seasons and capturing the regular-season Big Ten Championship by four games, tied for the second-largest margin in league history. Along with team success came individual accolades as Tom Izzo was named Big Ten Coach of the Year, Kalin Lucas earned Big Ten Player of the Year honors, and Travis Walton was selected Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.
