EAST LANSING, Mich. - Four days after opening the regular season against Connecticut in Germany, the Michigan State men's basketball team will play Kansas on Nov. 13 in Atlanta's Georgia Dome (7 p.m. ESPN) in the Champions Classic. The Champions Classic doubleheader, which also includes Kentucky vs. Duke, is part of ESPN's College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon, featuring 11 men's basketball games over 24 hours on ESPN.
This is the fourth straight year that MSU has participated in the Tip-Off Marathon. The Spartans defeated Gonzaga (75-71) in 2009 and South Carolina (82-73) in 2010 at Breslin Center. Last year, MSU fell to Duke (69-74) in Madison Square Garden in the first year of the Champions Classic. This is the fifth year ESPN has celebrated the start of the season with the marathon.
The Champions Classic is a three-year event featuring Michigan State, Duke, Kansas and Kentucky. This is the second year of the event with the 2013 event scheduled to be held in Chicago. The Spartans and Jayhawks last met in 2009, with MSU winning in East Lansing in January and in Indianapolis in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
