EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State is ranked No. 14 in the preseason USA Today Men's Basketball Coaches Poll released on Wednesday. The Spartans are one of five Big Ten teams ranked in the poll, which also includes No. 1 Indiana, No. 4 Ohio State, No. 5 Michigan and No. 21 Wisconsin. Minnesota is also receiving votes, but falls outside the Top 25. Last season, the Spartans were not ranked in the first poll, but finished the season ranked No. 7.
In addition, non-conference opponents Kansas (No. 7) and Texas (No. 24 -tie) are also ranked, while Miami, MSU's opponent in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge received votes. The Spartans will play Indiana, Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota each twice during Big Ten Conference action.
Michigan State opens the 2012-13 season against Connecticut in the Armed Forces Classic on Ramstein Air Base in Germany on Nov. 9. Tickets for home games are available at MSUSpartans.com or by calling 1-800-GO-STATE.
