Harris And Payne On Robertson Trophy Watch List

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State senior forward Adreian Payne and sophomore guard Gary Harris are two of 15 players named to the 2013-14 Oscar Robertson Trophy Preseason Watch List. The preseason watch list was selected by the board of directors of the United States Basketball Writers Association. Michigan State is the only school with two players on the list of 15. The award will be presented to the national player of the year by its namesake at the Devon Energy College Basketball Awards on April 14, 2014 in Oklahoma City.
Harris and Payne were both 2013 second-team All-Big Ten honorees and have each earned 2013-14 preseason All-America accolades. Payne averaged 10.5 points and 7.6 rebounds last season, ranking third in the conference. Harris was named the 2013 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, averaging 12.9 points last season. He was recently named preseason Big Ten Player of the Year as both he and Payne appeared on the official preseason All-Big Ten team.
The Big Ten leads all conferences with four candidates as Harris and Payne are joined by Michigan's Mitch McGary and Ohio State's Aaron Craft. The other candidate's include Jahii Carson (Arizona State), C.J. Fair (Syracuse), Aaron Gordon (Arizona), Joe Harris (Virginia), Doug McDermott (Creighton), Shabazz Napier (Connecticut), Jabari Parker (Duke), Julius Randle (Kentucky), Marcus Smart (Oklahoma State), Russ Smith (Louisville) and Andrew Wiggins (Kansas).
