EAST LANSING, Mich. - ESPN2 will air a documentary on "Operation Hardwood" on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 4 p.m. The 60-minute show will chronicle the trip of Michigan State men's basketball head coach Tom Izzo and seven other coaches to Camp Arifjan in Kuwait, to coach basketball teams of military personnel from eight different American bases in an eight-team tournament August 27-31. Coach Izzo was joined on the trip by Alabama's Mark Gottfried, Oklahoma's Kelvin Sampson, South Carolina's Dave Odom, UNC Charlotte's Bobby Lutz, former collegiate coaches Bobby Cremins and Mike Jarvis and ESPN college basketball analyst Jay Bilas. Izzo's team, Camp Arifjan, won the tournament.
Izzo would later describe the trip as a life-changing experience.
"When we won the national championship, it was an incredible run and an incredible week, but when I walked off the airplane, and pulled up to the hotel and someone pokes his head in the bus and says `thank you', I knew what this was going to be about," Izzo said.
