Nix Named Big Ten Player of the Week

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Derrick Nix earned his first Big Ten Player of the Week honor, the conference office announced, on Monday, Dec. 24. The senior center averaged 17.0 points and 9.5 rebounds in a pair of Spartan victories, including scoring a career-high 25 points against Texas.
In Saturday's 67-56 win over Texas, Nix turned in his third career double-double, and the second in his last three games, adding 11 rebounds to his career-high 25 points. He also recorded a career-high four steals in a career-high 32 minutes. Nix was efficient in the win, hitting 7-of-10 shots from the field, and 11-of-13 from the foul line. He opened the week with nine points and eight rebounds in a 64-53 win at Bowling Green.
On the season, Nix ranks fourth on the team in scoring at 8.8 ppg, and is grabbing a team-best 7.8 rebounds per contest, ranking second in the Big Ten.
