• In the first-ever meeting between the two schools, Michigan State defeated Florida Atlantic, 17-0, before a crowd of 70,321 at Spartan Stadium.

• The 17-0 win marks Michigan State's first shutout since Nov. 13, 1999, when the Spartans defeated Northwestern marked the first shutout by MSU at Spartan Stadium since a 47-0 victory over Eastern Michigan on Sept. 28, 1996.

Javon Ringer recorded a career-high 282 yards rushing, the fourth-highest single-game total in Michigan State history...Eric Allen owns the record with 350 yards at Purdue in 1971...Lorenzo White rushed for 292 yards against Indiana in 1987 and 286 yards vs. Indiana in 1985, the only other marks better than Ringer's performance.

• Ringer had a career-high 43 carries, the fifth-most in Michigan State history...the 43 carries are the most by a Spartan since Blake Ezor had 44 carries against Indiana in 1988.

• Ringer scored two touchdowns, a 21-yard run in the second quarter and an 11-yard run in the fourth quarter...Ringer, who entered the game leading the nation in scoring and rushing touchdowns, now has nine rushing touchdowns for the season.

• Ringer eclipsed the 3,000-yard rushing mark for his career, becoming just the sixth Spartan back to reach that milestone...Ringer is currently sixth all-time at MSU in rushing with 3,259 career yards.

• Ringer also moved up the career all-purpose yards list...with his career-high 308 all-purpose yards against the Owls, Ringer now has 4,088 career all-purpose yards, which is seventh in MSU history.

Chris L. Rucker held Florida Atlantic's leading receiver Cortez Gent without a reception...Gent entered the game with 11 catches this season for 205 yards.

Otis Wiley tied his career high with four pass break-ups...Wiley has a team-leading six pass break-ups this season and has 21 for his career.



• Florida Atlantic was limited to nine first downs, tying for the fewest first downs allowed during Coach Dantonio's tenure (Notre Dame and Indiana each recorded nine first downs in 2007).

Aaron Bates recorded career highs in punts (10) and punting yards (408).

• Michigan State was limited to under 100 yards passing (88 total) for the first time since Nov. 11, 1995, against Indiana (51 yards).
