In the 39th meeting between the two schools, Iowa defeated Michigan State, 34-27 in double-overtime, before 70,585 at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City...Iowa leads the all-time series, 20-17-2, including a 12-8-1 record in games in Iowa City.
It marks the first overtime game between the Hawkeyes and Spartans...MSU is now 2-4 all-time in overtime games...the Spartans fell to Northwestern in overtime earlier this year...it marks just the second time MSU has played two overtime games in one season (2005: win vs. Notre Dame; loss vs. Michigan).
Jehuu Caulcrick scored three rushing touchdowns, two 1-yard efforts in the first half and a 3-yard effort in the first overtime...he scored MSU's first TD of the day at the 5:10 mark in the first quarter...he also scored right before the half at the 2:12 mark in the second quarter to give MSU a 17-3 lead...he now has 34 career rushing touchdowns (tied for third in MSU history with Blake Ezor) and 35 total touchdowns (third in MSU history).
Devin Thomas recorded his fifth 100-yard receiving game of the season with nine catches for 139 yards...he caught four passes for 76 yards alone in the first quarter alone.
Brian Hoyer collected his third career 300-yard passing game as he went 25-for-42 for 308 yards...it marks his sixth career game with at least 200 yards passing...the 25 completions and 42 attempts were both season highs...he rushed for a career-long carry of 23 yards in the second quarter...Hoyer's previous long rush was 6 yards...Hoyer also scrambled for a 12-yard gain and a first down in the third quarter.
Terry Love caught a season-high three passes for a season-best 28 yards.
Greg Jones led the Spartans in tackles for the second-straight week with 11.
Eric Gordon recorded a career-high 10 tackles.
MSU's defense held Iowa to 53 yards passing, a season-low for a Spartan opponent this season.
