Complete Big Ten Schedules: 2016 | 2017

PARK RIDGE, Ill. - The Big Ten office announced the conference schedules for the 2016 and 2017 football seasons on Thursday. The 2016 and 2017 schedules will consist of nine games for each of the Big Ten's 14 teams.

The 2014 and 2015 football schedules were previously announced in the spring. Beginning in 2014, the Big Ten football division alignments will feature Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State and Rutgers in the East Division and Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Purdue and Wisconsin in the West Division. Each school will play the other six schools in its division plus two teams from the other division in 2014 and 2015, which will serve as transitional years in which the schools will still be playing eight-game schedules.

The 2016 season marks the return of a nine-game conference schedule for the first time since 1984, as teams from the East Division will host five conference home games during even-numbered years, while teams from the West Division will host five conference home games during odd-numbered years. As a result of the nine-game conference schedule and the Big Ten's schedule rotation, every student-athlete will have the opportunity to play against every other team in the conference at least once during a four-year period.

Michigan State will host five Big Ten games at Spartan Stadium in 2016, and four in 2017.

The Spartans' 2016 Big Ten schedule opens on Oct. 1 at Indiana. MSU will also travel to Maryland (Oct. 22), Illinois (Nov. 5) and Penn State (Nov. 26). Michigan State hosts Wisconsin (Oct. 8), Northwestern (Oct. 15), Michigan (Oct. 29), Rutgers (Nov. 12) and Ohio State (Nov. 19).

The 2016 Big Ten Championship Game is scheduled for Dec. 3.

In 2017, the Spartans will begin the Big Ten season by hosting Iowa on Sept. 30. MSU will also take on Indiana (Oct. 21), Penn State (Nov. 4) and Maryland (Nov. 18) in Spartan Stadium. The Spartans will travel to Michigan (Oct. 7), Minnesota (Oct. 14), Northwestern (Oct. 28), Ohio State (Nov. 11) and Rutgers (Nov. 25).

The 2017 Big Ten Championship Game is scheduled for Dec. 2.
