EAST LANSING, Mich. - Nearly 70 reporters from around the state of Michigan gathered Monday inside the Huntington Club at Spartan Stadium for Michigan State Football Media Day.

Eighth-year head coach Mark Dantonio began media day festivities with a 30-minute press conference at the main podium. After Dantonio, reporters talked with offensive players and coaches for 45 minutes, followed by the defensive staff and players.

"If there's anything that we do, I want our players to have confidence, but at the same time, I think it's important that we stay grounded and we understand that there's a responsibility that goes with winning," said Dantonio, as the Spartans enter 2014 ranked No. 8 in the Preseason Amway Coaches Poll. "There's a responsibility that just goes with being here. There's also responsibility that goes with winning, how we carry ourselves, and how we handle ourselves, and then the expectations and how we live up to those expectations.

"When you climb the mountain, you look up; you find there's a little bit more to find and there's a little bit more to do. Now, can you climb back up that mountain to see that? That will be the challenge."

In the morning, the Spartans held their third practice of preseason camp and their first in shells. The team will return to the practice field on Tuesday before putting on the pads for the first time on Wednesday.
