Aug. 5, 2013

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Nearly 60 reporters from around the state of Michigan gathered Monday inside the Huntington Club at Spartan Stadium for Michigan State Football Media Day.

Seventh-year head coach Mark Dantonio began media day festivities with a 30-minute press conference at the main podium. After Dantonio, reporters talked with offensive players and coaches for 45 minutes, followed by the defensive staff and players.

"I feel very, very good about the chemistry of our team - I always have," said Dantonio. "We've got to make plays on the field, make good coaching decisions, got to stay healthy, all of those things factor into success, I think. You've got to get on a roll a little bit too.

"But I'm excited about this season, very excited about the attitude of our players. Collectively, this year, we have 18 seniors, whereas last year we had nine. Most of those seniors are players and are playing regularly for our football team, and they're sort of established players on our team in terms of the leadership too. I think the more leadership you have, the better it's going to be, and you just sort of grow from there."

In the morning, the Spartans held their third practice of preseason camp and their first in shells on the fields behind the Duffy Daugherty Football Building.
