Forever I'm A Spartan Debuts Saturday
Sept. 4, 2010 EAST LANSING, Mich. - For numerous reasons, there has been a blossoming level of excitement within and around the Michigan State football program heading into Saturday's season and home opener against Western Michigan, especially in regards to the semi-clandestine project known as "Forever I'm A Spartan," the team's new theme song. The football team and coaching staff watched the world premiere of the "Forever I'm A Spartan" music video just prior to taking the pregame walk from the Kellogg Center to Spartan Stadium. Fans attending Saturday's game in Spartan Stadium will be treated to the first public viewing of the "Forever I'm A Spartan" music video, as the team concludes its pregame warm-ups, approximately 24 minutes prior to kickoff. Produced by former MSU basketball star Maurice Ager, the track features exhilarating Spartan-themed lyrics, accompanied by a chilling beat fit for the gridiron. Written and recorded by MSU alumnus and Detroit native "Crimson" (Sam Richardson), the track will be available for download on iTunes, beginning Saturday at midnight. "I think when you deal with making theme songs, there is a danger that it will turn out corny, but this song is incredible, anything but corny," explained Ager, whose company, Moe Ager Productions, inked a multi-faceted music deal with MSU Athletics in May 2010. "When my company Vice President Dan Dugger brought this idea to my attention, I couldn't wait to get started. Now, with the finished product wrapped up, I'm confident Spartan fans everywhere will be even more proud to rep the Green and White after hearing this song." Ager and "Crimson" traveled to campus in late August to shoot the music video, produced by David Diffenderffer (MSU Athletic Communications video producer). "When Moe asked me to be a part of this project, I was thrilled to jump on board," explained "Crimson," a 2005 MSU graduate with a degree in chemistry. "I really wanted to put something great together for my alma mater, and I think with Moe's help and the university's support, we've done just that."
"Maurice and `Crimson' put their heart and soul into this project for the last four months, and we're thrilled with the finished product," MSU Associate Athletics Director John Lewandowski said. "Our intention wasn't to create a song to replace the MSU Fight Song. It was our hope to develop something special for the current players as well as future Spartans, and at the same time, enhance the pregame environment in Spartan Stadium." "Forever I'm A Spartan"
Here We Are!!!!
Chorus (two times)
I can go war with you stand at the line of scrimmage
A draw play right up the middle
It's in me I'm a Spartan You gone think our offense from another planet We are just marching all to the beat of Our quarterback begins a play call hut one hut two If any reason that I really needed just to tell ya we That battle ground starts on the field 100 yards Well ya should've been a Chorus (two times)
Second Verse
Sink `em just like quicksand there is not a quick fix Zone blitz make him think we coming like a locomotive running as we drop back into coverage for a pick six Should I go shoestring tackle off with his legs or Alice in Wonderland off with his head on a blitz from the weak side And yeah we sting like bees from a bee hive read between the lines I'm a Spartan who plays my part like a possum waiting for you to kick it off I'm gone with it That's why I take long walk from the Kellogg Center to the gauntlet To Prepare me for what's to come the quiet before the storm That battle ground starts on the field 100 yards Chorus (two times)
