ATTENDANCE: Tonight's crowd for the second-ever night game at Spartan Stadium was 74,267.

SERIES: The series now stands in Notre Dame's favor by a 41-20-1 margin. In games played in East Lansing, ND holds a 15-12-1 edge over MSU, 13-10-1 in Spartan Stadium. Tonight's win enables MSU to claim back-to-back wins in the series for the first time since 1962 & '63.

NOTES: Richard Newsome's 25-yard return of a blocked punt for a TD (Sean Banks blocked it) in the first quarter marked the Spartans' first TD via a blocked punt since the Miami of Ohio game in 1994 when Brian Echols scooped up a blocked punt and went in 25 yards for a score.

The 86-yard scoring strike from QB Bill Burke to Plaxico Burress tied the fourth-longest pass completion in school history. In 1978, Spartan QB Ed Smith hooked up with Kirk Gibson for an 86-yarder vs. Indiana.

MSU's 45 points tonight represented the second-highest point total by a Spartan team against a Notre Dame squad. In 1956, the Green & White racked up a 47-14 win. MSU's 42 points in the first half were the most points scored by the Spartans in a half against a Notre Dame team (1956, 40 points in the second half was the previous high). Since the 1996 season, MSU has scored 40 or more points in a game on seven occasions.

MSU QB Bill Burke established personal bests in both passing yards (209) and TD passes (3) tonight. In his career, Burke has 12 TD tosses to his credit along with 87 career completions.

MSU now stands 10-2 under Nick Saban when rushing the ball 50 or more times in a game. This evening's 53 rushing attempts by MSU was a season-high.
