Swenson Named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week
Oct. 6, 2008
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Junior placekicker Brett Swenson has been named the Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week after connecting on all three of his field-goal attempts in MSU's 16-13 over Iowa. This marks Swenson's first Big Ten Player of the Week honor. The Pompano Beach, Fla., native made attempts from 29 and 32 yards in the second quarter and added a 25-yarder in the third period to give the Spartans a 16-3 advantage. Since missing his first field goal attempt of the season, Swenson has made his last 12 field goals, just one short of tying the school record of 13 consecutive field goals set by Paul Edinger in 1998. Swenson ranks seventh in school history in field goals with 42 and eighth in points scored with 231. He is 105-for-106 in his career in point-after attempts, which ranks fifth all-time in the MSU record books. Swenson is the first Spartan to earn Special Teams Player of the Week accolades since Demond Williams in 2005.
