EAST LANSING, Mich. - As Michigan State prepares to take on Michigan this Saturday, Nov. 3 in Spartan Stadium at 3:30 p.m., relive one of MSU's classic wins over the Wolverines on the Big Ten Network. In one of the most thrilling games in MSU history, Michigan State upset No. 1 Michigan in 1990, 28-27, en route to winning a share of the Big Ten title. The Big Ten Network will broadcast a replay of the game as part of its Big Ten's Greatest Game Series on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 4-6 p.m.
The score of the game was tied at 14 midway through the fourth quarter before the fireworks started. Hyland Hickson's 26-yard TD run with 6:03 left gave MSU a 21-14 lead, but Desmond Howard returned the ensuing kickoff 95 yards to even the score.
MSU then capped a 70-yard drive with a 9-yard touchdown run by Tico Duckett with 1:59 left. Michigan answered with a 7-yard scoring strike from Elvis Grbac to Derrick Alexander with six seconds remaining, but Grbac's two-point conversion pass to Howard fell incomplete in the end zone, preserving MSU's victory.
