East Lansing, Mich. - In a news conference held on Wednesday, Nov. 1, Michigan State University President Lou Anna K. Simon and Athletics Director Ron Mason made a joint announcement that head football coach John L. Smith would not continue in his current position after the the 2006 season. Coach Smith will coach the team for the three games remaining on the 2006 Spartan regular-season schedule, and also will coach the team in any bowl game for which it qualifies.
