EAST LANSING, Mich. - In this week's edition of Thursday Chalk Talk, secondary coach Harlon Barnett and running backs coach Dan Enos preview the matchup against Penn State with a scouting report on the Nittany Lions.
The Spartans (6-5, 4-3 Big Ten) host No. 13/12 Penn State (9-2, 5-2) Saturday, Nov. 21 at 3:30 p.m. in Spartan Stadium. The game will be televised regionally on ABC; in outer markets, the game will be on ESPN.
"Penn State has a great defense," Enos said. "When we watched them on film, we feel like they're the best defensive team we've seen all year. It all starts with their defensive front - they've got not just one or two, but four very, very good players in there. Two guys are special - No. 91 (Jared) Odrick and No. 85 (Ollie) Ogbu. They are very disruptive and set the tone for their entire defense. They give the linebackers freedom to roam and make plays. They get pressure on the quarterback which really helps the secondary too."
For MSU, 19 seniors will make their final appearance in Spartan Stadium on Saturday. The 2009 Senior Class consists of: Trevor Anderson, Rocco Cironi, Kendell Davis-Clark, Adam Decker, Brandon Denson, Danny Fortener, Andrew Hawken, Ashton Henderson, A.J. Jimmerson, Michael Jordan, Brendon Moss, Joel Nitchman, Andrew Pendy, Mike Schmeding, Brett Swenson, Jeremy Ware, Ross Weaver, Marcus Webb and Blair White.
"It's going to be emotional," said Barnett. "Personally, I'm going to play up on that emotion from a defensive back standpoint because I want the guys to go out and play well in their last game in Spartan Stadium. We have five seniors in the defensive back room and I expect all those guys to have their best game ever at Michigan State on Saturday."
