PARK RIDGE, Ill. - Red-shirt freshman Denicos Allen has been named the Big Ten Special Teams Co-Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
With Michigan State trailing Purdue, 31-28, late in the fourth quarter, Allen blocked Cody Webster's punt that Johnny Adams recovered at the Boilermaker 3-yard line. As a result of the block, Allen was credited with a 10-yard punt return. Two plays later, Kirk Cousins scrambled 3 yards for the game-winning touchdown to complete MSU's comeback from a 15-point fourth-quarter deficit.
This marks the first time in his career Allen has been named Big Ten Player of the Week. For the season, Allen has seen action in all 11 games on special teams and as a back-up linebacker. He has recorded 14 tackles, including one for a 3-yard loss, and also recovered a fumble in the season opener against Western Michigan.
