THIS WEEK: The Michigan State men's golf team will host the Northern Intercollegiate at Forest Akers West, Sept 27-28. Teams will play 36 holes on Saturday, followed by 18 on Sunday. The following 17 teams will be competing: Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kent State, Michigan, Miami of Ohio, Minnesota, Marshall, Penn State, Purdue, Toledo, Wright State, Wisconsin, and Xavier. At last fall's Northern Intercollegiate Michigan State finished 15th with a two-round total 313-320=633. The final round of the tournament was cancelled due to inclement weather.
YALE INTERCOLLEGIATE RECAP: The MSU golf team took part in the Yale Fall Intercollegiate two weeks ago, coming away with a fifth-place tie after shooting a three-round total of 299-305-292=896. John Ehrgott and Matt Pumford led the Spartan scoring, with Ehrgott carding a 75-72-74=221, just one stroke off his career-best, and Pumford's career-best 71 in the third round opening the door to a 76-74-71=221 score. The two Spartans finished in a tie for eighth overall. Also competing for the Spartans were: Chad Quinn (t-34th, 74-77-77=228), Cory Lathern (t-34th, 74-83-71=228), and Matt Reigel (94th, 82-82-76=240).
