THIS WEEK: The Michigan State men's golf team will travel to Bloomington, Indiana this week to take part in the Legends of Indiana Intercollegiate tournament on Oct. 4-5. MSU finished 16th at last year's Legends tournament.

LAST WEEK: Michigan State hosted its only regular-season tournament last weekend, the Northern Intercollegiate at Forest Akers West Course on Sept 27-28. The Spartans will play host to the Big Ten Championship to end the spring season.

As a team, Michigan State finished the tournament 11th out of 17 teams, shooting 306-303-305=914, three strokes from 10th place Indiana and only four shots behind 9th place Eastern Michigan. Kent State University fired a 286-289-293=868, outdistancing the field by 10 strokes.

The top golfer for MSU was Cory Lathern, who finished tied for 37th with a 78-77-73=228. Bunched within three shots of Lathern were Chad Quinn (t42nd, 75-75-79=229), Matt Pumford (t45th, 75-78-77=230) and Matt Riegel (t49th, 78-77-76=231), followed by John Ehrgott (82-74-79=235). Competing as individuals for Michigan State were Brent Goik (78-79-80=237), Alberto Quevedo (84-80-78=242) and Rich Strozewski (82-81-83=246).

FIRST-EVER ACE: Quevedo provided a bright spot for MSU on Saturday, recording his first career hole-in-one on the 213-yard, par-3 eighth hole. "I'm happy for Alberto," said head coach Ken Horvath. "Hopefully this is something he can build on and try to crack the top five in our lineup."
