GREENSBORO, Ga. - The first two rounds of the Linger Longer Invitational concluded on Saturday, as the Michigan State men's golf team stands in 13th place. The Spartans shot 30-over par 606 (289-317) at the Great Waters Golf Club at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Ga. Tomorrow's final round will be an 8:30 a.m. ET shotgun start.
In a field that includes eight of the top-50 programs in the country, the Spartans hung tight in the first round, but struggled in the afternoon. No. 1 Alabama and No. 5 Georgia are currently tied for first at 20-under par 556. Alabama's Robby Shelton, the No. 2 golfer in the nation, holds a one shot individual lead at 9-under par 135.
Senior Carson Castellani leads the Spartans after 36 holes, currently in a tie for 54th at 5-over par 149 (70-79). Castellani opened with a season-low 2-under par 70, his third sub-par round of the season. Freshman Charlie Netzel is a shot behind at 6-over par 150 (72-78) and is tied for 56th. Classmate Gareth Lappin carded back-to-back rounds of 77, to tie for 77th at 10-over par 144. Rounding out the MSU lineup, sophomore Mitch Rutledge is 79th at 13-over par 157 (74-83) and junior Jon Finley is tied for 80th at 15-over par 159 (73-86).
