Men's Golf Tied For Third After Sunday at Western Intercollegiate

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's golf team finished the first day of action at the Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif. in a tie for third at 10-over par 290. Sophomores Payne Gniewek and Graham Baillargeon sit in a tie for ninth individually after opening rounds of one-over par 71.
Gniewek led the Spartans with six birdies in an up-and-down first round, while Baillargeon posted four birdies. Junior Jack Newman, the defending Western Intercollegiate champion, is tied for 24th at three-over par 73. Senior Jordanm Ensrud is tied for 44th at five-over 75, while redshirt freshman Phil Snow is tied for 50th at six-over 76 to round out the MSU competitors.
Fresno State leads after 18 holes at two-under par 278. On the individual side, Fresno State's Bhavik Patel and Colorado's Pat Grady are tied for the lead at two-under par 68.
Tomorrow's second round tees off at 12 p.m. ET with a shotgun start.
