Men's Golf Finishes 15th At Border Olympics

LAREDO, Texas - Michigan State men's golf finished in 15th place at the 53rd annual Border Olympics on Saturday, April 3. This year's tournament is being held at the par 72, 7,125-yard Laredo Country Club. The Spartans shot a three-round total of 893 (297-290-306), including a 290 in Friday's afternoon session. SMU, which led the 17-team field heading into Saturday' final round, earned the team title with an 852 (282-276-294), while Baylor was second with an 859 (286-283-290). BYU (862), Colorado State (866) and San Diego State (869) rounded out the top five teams. Individually, junior Andrew Ruthkoski (Muskegon, Mich.) paced the Spartans as he finished tied for 12th with a 215 (70-70-75). Colorado State's Martin Laird took medalist honors after shooting a 207 (68-68-71). Freshman Matt Harmon (Grand Rapids, Mich.) finished 41st with a 222 (75-72-75). Senior Ben Fox (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and red-shirt freshman Zac Zedrick (Danville, Ill.) tied for 69th with a 229. Fox shots rounds of 75-77-77, while Zedrick posted rounds of 77-73-79. Rounding out the Spartan line-up is senior Casey Lubahn (Sand Lake, Mich.), who placed 92nd after shooting a 242 (87-75-80). MSU returns to action at the Boilermaker Invitational April 10-11.
