EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan Stateis three-round 304-294-295=893 gave the Spartans a 15th-place finish in the highly competitive 20-team field at the Marshall Invitational Friday and Saturday in Huntington, W.V.

The Spartans, on the heels of three straight top-six finishes, rebounded from a slow start in the first round to post 294-295 in the final 36 holes. Leading the way was junior Matt Pumford (Saginaw), whose second-round 69 was two strokes better than his previous career low. Pumford followed that with a 70 on Saturday, finishing in a tie for 19th place individually at 78-69-70=217.

Pumford received solid support from senior John Ehrgott (Peoria, Ill.), who tied for 41st with a 75-71-76=222. Junior Alberto Quevedo (Canary Islands, Spain) and sophomore Chad Quinn (Sylvania, Ohio) tied for 68th place with three-round 228s.

The Spartans return to action next weekend at the Kepler Invitational in Columbus, Ohio.
