MUNCIE, Ind. - A pair of Michigan State golfers began a busy week competing in the Earl Yestingsmeier Memorial Invitational hosted by Ball State at the Delaware Country Club, which is a par 70 6,438-yard course.
Both junior A.J. Varekois and freshman Austin Jenner were both competing as individuals at the Earl Yestingsmeier Memorial. Eastern Kentucky leads the team competition after two rounds with a 14-over 714 (358-356), while Ball State is second with a 20-over 720 (362-358). Cleveland State is third with a 23-over 723 (363-360).
After 36 holes, Varekois stands tied for 12th with a 4-over 144 (72-72). The 72 was one shot off of his career-low of 71 during the 2015-16 season. This was Varekois' first tournament of the season.
Jenner is tied for 71st after two rounds with an 18-over 158 (71-87). Jenner tied his season-low with the first-round 71. He also shot a 71 at the Chechessee Creek Dual against Iowa on March 12.
The Spartan duo will complete the Earl Yestingsmeier Memorial Invitational on Saturday, April 15. Varekois will tee off at 8:40 a.m., while Jenner will begin the third round at 8:20 a.m.
The rest of the Spartans will begin action at the Boilermaker Invitational April 15-16 in West Lafayette, Indiana.
