COLUMBUS, Ohio - Michigan State men's golf senior Matthew Moseley began play at the NCAA Columbus Regional on Thursday, shooting a 3-over par 74 at the Ohio State University Golf Club's Scarlet Course. In his NCAA debut, Moseley is tied for 24th heading into tomorrow's second round.
"A good start for Matthew today," said Spartan head coach Casey Lubahn. "He has to save a few more shots tomorrow, but I like the way he played today and the way he was thinking. If we see the same type of things tomorrow, we should expect some success going into Saturday. Today's round was highlighted by some really good shots, and two birdies at the end of the first nine."
After posting pars on his first three holes, Moseley bogeyed two of his next three holes. He bounced back to birdie the par-4 seventh and ninth holes to finish the front nine at even-par 36. The back nine began with four-straight pars, but he would go on to bogey the 14th, 16th and 18th holes to end his day.
Moseley tees off tomorrow at 9:50 a.m. ET off the 10th hole.
The top-five teams and the low individual not on those teams will move on to the NCAA Championship at the Capital City Club Crabapple Course in Atlanta, Ga. on May 28-June 2.
