Men's Golf Finishes 12th at Adams Cup of Newport

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Michigan State men's golf team wrapped up play at the 17th annual Adams Cup of Newport on Tuesday at Newport National Golf Club in Newport, R.I., with a final round 19-over par 307 to finish the two-day event in 12th place at 59-over par 923 (314-302-307). Sophomore James Ross led the Spartans on Tuesday with a final round 1-over par 73 to finish the tournament in a tie for 24th at 10-over 226 (80-73-73). Junior Chris Mory was the second-best MSU golfer, concluding with a 12-over 228 (75-75-78) to tie for 33rd. Freshman Conor O'Neil tied for 55th after carding a 19-over 235 (78-80-77). Junior Dave Ellis shot a 23-over 239 (81-79-79) and tied for 70th, while freshman Carson Castellani was 86th with a 36-over 252 (89-75-88). Central Florida ran away with the team title, topping West Florida by 18 shots, finishing the tournament at 4-over par 868 (295-286-287). UCF's Greg Eason held on for medalist honors with a 2-under par 214 (74-69-71).
The Spartans return to action on Oct. 4-5, when they host the Rees Jones Intercollegiate in Daufuskie Island, S.C.
