EAST LANSING, Mich. - In the opening round of The Invitational at The Ocean Course on Sunday, the Michigan State men's golf team shot a 24-over par 312 at Kiawah Island Resort's Ocean Course. Tomorrow's second round is set to begin at 7:50 a.m. ET.
"We got off to a good start and then really struggled to commit to our shots and let our emotions drag us down on the back nine," said head coach Casey Lubahn. "The Ocean Course is a true test and we have to commit to our decision and trust it. If we do that, we can get back in the tournament."
Senior Carson Castellani posted the low score of the day for MSU with a 3-over par 75, to sit in a tie for 26th. Castellani had a team-best three birdies today.
Sophomore Mitch Rutledge and redshirt freshman Sean Friel both carded 6-over par 78, and are tied for 48th. Rutledge opened his day with 11-straight pars. Freshman Charlie Netzel is tied for 66th at 9-over par 81, while junior Jon Finley is 76th at 14-over 86.
Kentucky leads the field after shooting an even-par 288 and Western Carolina's J.T. Poston is the individual leader at 5-under par 67.
