Men's Golf Remains in 14th at The Invitational at The Ocean Course
Friel posts the low round of the day for the Spartans with a 2-over par 74.

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Through two rounds of The Invitational at The Ocean Course, the Michigan State men's golf team is in 14th place with a score of 43-over par 619 (312-307). The Spartans shot a 19-over par 307 on Monday at Kiawah Island Resort's Ocean Course. Tomorrow's final round is set to begin at 8 a.m. ET.
"Some better stuff out there today but we still are making the big mistakes too often," said head coach Casey Lubahn. "We need to button it up tomorrow with a good round and build some momentum for a very important offseason."
Redshirt freshman Sean Friel had the best round of the day for the Spartans, carding a 2-over par 74 to move up into a tie for 35th at 8-over par 152 (78-74). Friel had a team-best four birdies in his second round.
Senior Carson Castellani is in a tie for 42nd at 9-over par 153 (75-78), while sophomore Mitch Rutledge is a shot back at 10-over par 154 (78-76) and tied for 47th. Rutledge was 5-over after his first five holes today, but bounced back to play his final 13 at 1-under par. Rounding out the lineup, freshman Charlie Netzel is tied for 67th at 16-over par 160 (81-79) and junior Jon Finley is tied for 75th at 21-over par 165 (86-79). Finley leads the team with five birdies so far this tournament.
No. 17 South Florida jumped into the lead at even par 576, after a round of 3-under par 285 today. The Bulls' Richard James leads individually at 8-under par 136.
