EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's golf team heads to Pinehurst, N.C. this weekend for the 2009 Pinehurst Intercollegiate, held at The Centennial Pinehurst No. 8. Play in the first stroke play tournament of the spring for the Spartans begins on Sunday morning and runs until Tuesday afternoon.

Michigan State, who finished third in the Big Ten Match Play Championship in its lone event of the spring, enters this weekend ranked No. 24 in the Golfweek/Sagarin national poll. Junior Jack Newman leads the Spartans ranking 40th in the Golfweek/Sagarin individual rankings.

Joining the Spartans in the field will be Ball State, Belmont, Eastern Kentucky, Marquette, Marshall, Miami (Ohio), Michigan, Minnesota, N.C. Greensboro, N.C. Wilmington, Old Dominion, Penn State, Radford, Southern Mississippi, Toledo, VCU, Virginia Tech, Western Illinois and Wichita State.
