EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's golf team will compete this weekend in the Hawkeye-Great River Entertainment Invitational, hosted on April 14-15 at the Finkbine Golf Course (par-72, 7,180 yards) in Iowa City. The Spartans will play 36 holes on Saturday and 18 on Sunday, with both days starting at 10 a.m. ET.
"It is going to be important that we start to play five good rounds a day. We haven't been down about out play, but everyone needs to play well on the same day in order for us to reach the level of success that we are looking for," said Spartan head coach Casey Lubahn. "Jimmy Dewling is going to join the mix this weekend, and hopefully will bring an infusion of enthusiasm to our lineup.
"Seeing five other Big Ten schools in this tournament will help our preparation for the conference championship at the end of the month. They are teams that we feel we can compete with, and hopefully being in the field with them will spark a fire in our bellies."
The Spartans will make one change to the lineup this week, as senior Jimmy Dewling joins senior Chris Mory, and juniors Dan and Dave Ellis, and Matthew Moseley. It will be Dewling's first time in the MSU competitive five this season.
This weekend's field features six Big Ten schools including Iowa and MSU. Joining the Spartans and Hawkeyes are Charlotte, Iowa State, Miami (Ohio), Minnesota, Nebraska, Penn State, UMKC, Washington State and Wisconsin.
Michigan State had last weekend off from competition, after finishing seventh at the Irish Creek Collegiate two weeks ago. Dan Ellis led the way for MSU, tying for 10th individually with a career-low 3-under par 210. It was his fourth top-10 finish of the season.
