Men's Golf Returns to Action at Boilermaker Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's golf team retutns to the course this weekend for the Boilermaker Invitational, held at the Kampen Course of the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. Play begins on Saturday with 36 holes beginning at 8:45 a.m. and concludes with 18 holes on Sunday starting at 8 a.m.
The Spartans, ranked No. 28 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, have finished among the top-four in eight of their nine events this season and have had four individual champions so far. Junior Jack Newman, the first Spartan to compete in the Masters, leads the way with a 72.4 stroke average and ranks No. 38 by Golfweek/Sagarin.
Joining the Spartans in the field will be Bowling Green, Cleveland State, Columbia, Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, IUPUI, Loyola, Miami (Ohio), Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Penn State, Purdue, Temple, Toledo and Wisconsin. Both Indiana (ninth) and Illinois (14th) rank among the nation's top-15 programs.
It will mark the third-straight season that Michigan State has appeared in the Boilermaker Invitational. The Spartans won the title in 2007 and placed second last season.
