Brehm Finishes Eighth At Michigan Open
Sophomore-to-be shoots an even-par 288 in 72-hole event.

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Sophomore-to-be Ryan Brehm (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) shot an even-par 288 (71-71-72-74) to finish eighth at the 2005 Detroit Newspapers Michigan Open. This year's event, which was won by Michael Harris at 20-under 268, was played on the Bear Course at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa from June 27-30.
In addition to Brehm, two other Spartans finished in the top 65. Jimmy Chestnut (Grand Blanc, Mich.), who was a senior in 2004-05, finished tied for 51st with a 300 (77-70-80-73) and sophomore-to-be Nathan Gunthorpe (Ovid, Mich.) tied for 61st with a 304 (73-74-75-82).
Four former MSU golfers finished in the top 36 and were led by Brent Goik (1998-2001), who tied for 14th with a 292. Nathan Clark (1999-2002) and John Koskinen (2001-03) tied for 24th with a 295, while Lyn Janson (1968-70) tied for 36th with a 297.
Red-shirt freshman Grant Tungate (Okemos, Mich.) missed the cut for championship play after carding back-to-back rounds of 78 and finished tied for 100th.
