"This is the continuation of a great summer for our guys," said Spartan head coach Casey Lubahn. "Mitch has been playing very well highlighted by a Sweet 16 showing at the U.S. Amateur Public Links and steady play in other national events.

"Gates has been working extremely hard and I am excited that his results are showing. Each of them will have a wonderful experience at The Country Club in Brookline."

A rising sophomore, Rutledge qualified on July 22 at Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing. He needed a playoff, after tying for second at 2-under par 140 after the 36-hole afternoon.

Rutledge, a St. Louis, Mo., native, played in all 12 events for the Spartans in his first season. He finished third on the team with a 75.7 scoring average, while posting three top-20 placements.

A Traverse City, Mich., native, Muller redshirted for the Spartans last year in his initial campaign in East Lansing. Muller played at the qualifier at Bloomfield Hills Country Club on July 15. Also needing extra holes to advance, he shot an even-par 144 and survived a three-man playoff for one spot.
