EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State junior Steve Cuzzort (Grosse Ile, Mich.) won the 86th Golf Association of Michigan Championship with a three-round total of 7-under-par 209 (72-68-69) at Walnut Hills Country Club in East Lansing, Mich., on Tuesday. Cuzzort defeated John Carras of Midland by a single stroke and was one of three players to fire three rounds of even-par or lower for the event.

Two of Cuzzort's teammates, redshirt junior Grant Tungate (East Lansing, Mich.) and junior Randy Hutchison (Traverse City, Mich.) finished in ties for fourth place at 3-under par 213.

Senior Brandon Cigna (Novi, Mich.) also competed but missed qualifying for the final round by two shots with a 36-hole total of 150 (76-74).

In other summer tournament action, senior Ryan Brehm (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) competed in the 105th Western Amateur at Point O' Woods Golf and Country Club in Benton Harbor, Mich., last weekend. Brehm opened with an even-par 70 but fired a second round 75 to miss the 36-hole cut by a single stroke.

The collegiate golf season is fast approaching for the defending Big Ten Champion Spartans, with their first tournament of the season Sept. 8-9 in Toledo, Ohio at the Inverness Intercollegiate.
