Spartans Ready for Bearcat Invitational
MSU returns to the Bearcat Invitational as defending champions.
EAST LANSING - Coming off a second-place performance at last week’s Inverness Invitational, the Michigan State men’s golf team will take part in the Bearcat Invitational, September 25-26, at Coldstream Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Format: Play 6, count 4
Schedule of Play: 54 total holes; 36 continuous holes on Day 1; Final 18 holes on Day 2
Start times: Monday, Sept. 25 – Rounds 1‐2 (Shotgun start at 8:45‐9 a.m.)
Tuesday, Sept. 26 ‐ Round 3 (Tee times start at 8:35‐8:45 a.m.)
The Spartans won last year’s Bearcat Invitational at Coldstream with a 3-over-par 855 (285-281-289). Michael Sharp was the Spartans’ top finisher at the event, taking runner-up honors with a 2-under-par 211 (68-73-70).
Coldstream Country Club is one of Cincinnati’s premier private clubs situated on 190 idyllic acres, featuring an elite, championship 18‐hole golf course. It has served as the backdrop to numerous Ohio amateur and open championships as well as USGA qualifiers. Learn more about the course here.

THE LAST TIME OUT
The Spartans took second at the rain-shortened Inverness Intercollegiate on Sept. 19. With the final round cancelled due to rain, the Spartans’ 9-under-par 559 (276-283) was one shot shy of tourney champ St. Mary’s.
Sophomore Kaleb Johnson tied for medalist honors with an 8-under-par 134. Johnson shot an opening-round 6-under-par 65, which tied for the second-lowest score in both school and Inverness Intercollegiate history. Johnson then shot a 2-under-par 69 in round two.

“I think we’re progressing nicely. I thought we were a little sloppy in the second round at the Inverness, but we’re learning. We’re excited about the format this week – play six, count four. We'll be playing in our own threesomes and we can build momentum as a group. This group we have really pushes each other, we see it in practice, practice rounds and in tournaments.
“We’re honored to go back as defending champs and it’s a great event.”
