Marquette Intercollegiate Up Next for Men’s Golf

EAST LANSING - The Michigan State men’s golf team will play its fourth consecutive tournament of the fall when it takes part in the Marquette Intercollegiate, October 1-3, at Erin Hills in Wisconsin, site of the 2017 U.S. Open.

Schedule of Play: 54 holes – 18 Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
Tee times off holes No. 1 and No. 10 will begin at 10 a.m. ET on Sunday and Monday and then at 9:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday.

TOURNAMENT HISTORY
Marquette has hosted a fall event in each of the last four seasons and at Erin Hills in three of the last four. Stanford (2013), UCLA (2014), SMU (2015) and Northwestern (2016) are past winners of the Marquette Intercollegiate.

THE COURSE
Erin Hills was the site of the 117th U.S. Open this past June. The course played as the longest in major championship history at 7,741 yards and will feature a similar layout for the Marquette Intercollegiate, playing as a 7,722 yard-par 72.

Augusta, Florida State (24), Iowa State, Marquette (22), Michigan State, Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Ole Miss, Purdue, South Florida, Texas A&M (1), UC Davis, UCLA, UTEP and Wisconsin.

THE LAST TIME OUT
The Spartans placed 10th at the Bearcat Invitational, September 25-26, with a 5-over-par 857 (286-282-289). Michael Sharp recorded two of the best rounds of his career with a 3-under-par 68 and 4-under-par 67 in rounds one and two, respectively, and led the Spartans by placing 20th.

Andrew Walker had the best 54-hole score of his career with a 3-over-par 216.

LUBAHN’S THOUGHTS
“It’s a great golf course. Obviously the guys are excited after having watched the Open there this summer. I think the important thing is that we learned a lesson last week. We’re going to have to be very prepared for every shot this week, and I don’t worry about that now, considering we now recognize the value of each shot. It’s going to be a great opportunity to take on some good teams.”
