Six Spartans Begin Stanley Cup Quest

NHL Post-Season Begins Tuesday

2001-02: Earned 2002 CCHA all-rookie team honorable mention status, after appearing in all 41 games • Added three goals and 12 assists for 15 points • Opened the season with a five-game point streak from Oct. 6-26, recording 2-6--8 during that span • Had four multiple-point games on the season – picked up a pair of assists vs. Lake Superior State (Oct. 12), notched two helpers vs. Ferris State (Oct. 20) and tallied a goal and an assist at Nebraska-Omaha (Oct. 26) and vs. Notre Dame (Feb. 9) • Snapped a seven-game scoreless streak with an assist in the Spartans’ 4-4 overtime tie vs. Minnesota (Nov. 25) • Picked up a pair of helpers vs. North Dakota in the Great Lakes Invitational championship game (Dec. 29) • Assist in MSU win vs. Ohio State (Jan. 25) brought to an end a six-game scoreless stretch • Scored first career goal in 3-3 overtime tie vs. Michigan in front of 74,554 fans at Spartan Stadium (Oct. 6) • One of 38 players invited to the Canadian National Junior Team tryout camp in December.

PRIOR TO MSU: Played for the Penticton Panthers of the British Columbia Hockey League in 2000-01 • Led BCHL defensemen in points and ranked ninth overall in scoring with 18-64--82 in 60 regular-season games last season • 64 assists were fourth-most in BCHL • 10 of his 18 goals came on special teams – eight power-play tallies and two shorthanded markers • Added three goals and six assists in seven playoff games for the Panthers • Helped Penticton to the Interior Conference regular-season championship and a league-best 48-10-2 record • 2001 BCHL Interior Conference First Team selection • Also recognized as the league’s Best Defenseman in 2001 • Played for the winning Interior Conference team in the 2001 BCHL All-Star Game after receiving the highest vote total of any blueliner in the league (39 of a possible 40 votes) • Served as team co-captain in 1999-2000 and 2000-01 • Won team’s Best Defenseman Award in 2000-01.

PERSONAL: Born July 16, 1983 • Business major • Graduate of Penticton Secondary School • Lists weightlifting and mountain biking as hobbies • A fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs • Lists Anaheim’s Paul Kariya and Pavel Bure of the Florida Panthers as his favorite professional players • Son of David and Jean Keith • Says his father is his biggest hockey influence because “he’s taught me a lot about the game and given me the vision to play in the National Hockey League” • Selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round (54th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
