No. 1 Hockey Battles to Scoreless Tie with No. 5 RedHawks
Michigan State's Alban and Miami's Prior stellar in goal.
In the first 54 years of Michigan State hockey, there were two scoress ties. Just over a year and a half later, that total has doubled.
Behind stellar goaltending from Chad Alban in the MSU nets and Trevor Prior in the Miami goal, Michigan State and the RedHawks skated to a 0-0 tie Saturday night at Miami's Goggin Ice Arena. Both teams had solid opporutnities, with Michigan State outshooting the seventh-ranked 'Hawks 28-20. The No. 1 Spartans, who lost Friday night to Ohio State, have now gone back-to-back games without a victory for the first time this year.
"I'm really disappointed with one point on the weekend," head coach Ron Mason said. "But we did play better tonight. I thought we eliminted the mistakes that hurt us Friday night and given our situation played one of our better games of the year."
The Spartan offense was without two of its top five scorers in Shawn Horcoff (who suffered a broken thumb in the last game against Miami, Jan. 31) and Bryan Adams (who separated his shoulder in Friday night's loss). Horcoff will be reevaluated Monday or Tuesday, while Adams is doubtful for this weekend's games against Western Michigan and Ohio State at Munn Ice Arena.
