White Team Rules Regulation, But Green Wins Shootout
Hockey season kicks off with annual Green & White game.

East Lansing, Mich. - The Spartans held their annual Green and White intrasquad scrimmage on Sunday, with the White team prevailing, 5-1. The game was staged in two 25-minute halves, with a shootout at the end; the Green team won the three-player shootout, 1-0.
White team goaltender Jeff Lerg shut out the Green squad for 49 minutes, but was foiled by a 5-on-3 goal by Ben Warda in the final minute of regulation. Andrew Rowe and Dustin Gazley each had a goal and an assist, while Daultan Leveille, Andrew Conboy, and Nick Sucharski also had tallies for the white squad.
The shootout - a new feature in tie games this season in the CCHA - was contested at the end of regulation. Jeff Petry, Nick Sucharski, and Corey Tropp from the white team were foiled by freshman netminder Drew Palmisano, while Jeff Lerg made a stop on Tim Crowder but was solved by Kurt Kivisto.
The Spartans open the 2008-09 exhibition season on Monday evening with a tilt against Western Ontario at 7 p.m.
