Men's Hockey Defeats Boston University

MADISON, Wisc.- Michigan State used a dominant defensive effort and some timely offense to upset defending NCAA runner-up Boston University, 3-1, in the first round of the Ice Breaker Invitational in Madison, Wisconsin.

The game will not count in either teams' overall records, but the win was an important one for the third-ranked Spartans.

MSU's stingy defense held BU to 20 shots and the Spartans and goalie Chad Alban shut out the Terriers until just 4:01 remained.

Senior right wing Kevin O'Keefe provided the necessary offense with two goals just 5:14 apart in the second period. Freshman defenseman Matt Kruzich gave MSU a 3-0 cushion 8:58 into the 3rd.

Michigan State faces either Clarkson or Wisconsin in the tourney finals Saturday.
