EAST LANSING - Michigan State sophomore goaltender Jake Hildebrand has been named the Big Ten Third Star of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Hildebrand recorded 53 saves and posted a .946 save percentage to help the Spartans claim five of six points from Penn State last weekend.
In Friday's 2-2 tie, Hildebrand notched 25 saves and then stopped all seven attempts he faced as the Spartans won the shootout. The following afternoon, the native of Butler, Pa., stopped 28 of 29 shots as Michigan State claimed a 2-1 victory over the Nittany Lions.
Hildebrand currently leads all Big Ten goalies with a .942 save percentage in conference play.
The weekly Big Ten honor is the fourth of Hildebrand's career and the first since being named First Star on Jan. 21. It marks the second consecutive weekly recognition for a Spartan as Greg Wolfe was named the Third Star last week.
