EAST LANSING, Mich. - Senior center Sean Berens (Palatine, Ill.) has been named CCHA Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced today.

Berens had four goals and two assists in Michigan State's weekend sweep of Michigan which moved the Spartans into first place in the league. Berens had a hat trick Friday in MSU's 5-1 win, including the game-winner, and again netted the game-winner in a 4-1 victory Saturday. He added an assist each night.

Berens' first goal Friday came as he athletically swatted a rebound out of midair with a baseball-type swing. In post-game interviews, the Cubs fan said he dedicated the goal to Harry Caray.

Berens is leading the CCHA and stands second in the nation with 30 goals on the season (plus 16 assists, 46 points). He leads the NCAA in power-play goals with 13, including two this weekend.

Berens and the second-ranked Spartans (26-4-5 overall, 18-4-4 CCHA) have four more games remaining in the regular season. This Friday and Saturday, MSU hosts Lake Superior and Ferris State in the final home games of the regular season. Saturday, Berens and the four other MSU seniors will be honored at Senior Night.
