East Lansing, Mich. - Senior defenseman Brock Shelgren (Chicago, Ill. ) has signed with the Alaska Aces of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL), and has met the team in California for the team's final two regular-season games.
Shelgren recently completed his four-year career in Green & White, appearing in 138 career games. As a senior, Shelgren skated on the top pair with CCHA Player of the Year Torey Krug, and enjoyed his career-best offensive season (three goals, 13 points). Shelgren led the CCHA in blocked shots (107), and was a +14, second-best on the team behind Krug. In his 138 games, Shelgren had a 8-21-29 scoring line with 62 PIM and was a +18.
The finance major was recently honored as MSU's CCHA Scholar-Athlete for the second straight season. Shelgren is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and was a 2010 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar. Shelgren is an Academic All-America nominee this year, boasting a 3.7 grade-point average.
Shelgren will be reunited with another former Spartan skater, defenseman Brandon Gentile, who has 13 points in 35 games for the Aces this season (+13)
