EAST LANSING - Former Michigan State defenseman Jake Chelios has signed a professional tryout contract with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League, it was announced by the organization on Friday, April 4. Prior to joining the Wolves, Chelios played seven games with the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL where he had one goal and one assist.
Chelios, who played in over 150 consecutive games with the Green and White, finished his Spartan career with 17 goals and 37 assists for 54 points. As a senior, he posted a team-high 19 assists and earned All-Big Ten honorable mention.
In addition to Jake Chelios, brother Dean Chelios, Greg Wolfe and Will Yanakeff have also extended their playing careers. Dean is playing with the Toledo Walleye, while Wolfe joined the Reading Royals, also of the ECHL. Wolfe, the two-time Spartan captain, scored his first goals as a member of the Royals on Tuesday in a 6-2 win over the Orlando Solar Bears.
Yanakeff has played three games for the Allen Americans of the CHL where he has a 1.88 GAA and .920 save percentage.
