EAST LANSING - Michigan State incoming freshmen Christian and Cole Krygier were both selected in the seventh round of the NHL Draft on Saturday, June 23 in Dallas. The New York Islanders took Christian at pick No. 196, while Cole was selected five spots later at No. 201 by the Florida Panthers.

The twin defensemen, who hail from Novi, signed National Letters of Intent this spring to join the Spartans for 2018-19 and are part of Michigan State's seven-member incoming class. Both Christian and Cole played the last two seasons for the Lincoln Stars of the USHL.

In his second USHL season with the Stars, Christian recorded eight assists in 48 regular season games. He was second on the team with 137 penalty minutes and had a plus-10 rating.

Christian, who stands 6-foot-2 ¼, played 15 games with the U.S. National Under-17 Team in 2016-17, five of which were at the World Hockey Challenge. He also represented the U.S. at the 2017 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup.

He had five points (2g, 3a) and was plus-9 in 50 games for Lincoln in 2016-17.

Christian is the third Spartan selected by the New York Islanders organization in the NHL Draft and first since Mark Hamway and Ken Leiter in 1980.

Cole had 17 points (3g, 14a) in 58 games in his second season with Lincoln in 2017-18. He posted a plus-12 rating and compiled 107 penalty minutes.

The 6-foot-2 ¾ blueliner took part in a pair of showcase games, playing in the USA Hockey CCM All-American Prospects Game and later the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.

In his first USHL season with Lincoln in 2016-17, Cole had six points (3g, 3a) in 37 games to go along with a plus-8 rating.

Cole's experience on the international stage includes representing the United States at the 2017 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup.

Cole is the third Spartan chosen by the Florida Panthers in the NHL Draft and first since Ron Boyd in 2010.

Cole and Christian's older brother, Brock, was a defenseman for Michigan State from 2012-15.

The selection of Christian and Cole Krygier gives MSU a total of 119 all-time NHL Draft picks.
