EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State hockey team will have at least 27 games televised this season, it was announced today (Sept. 16) when the Big Ten Conference released its broadcast schedule for the upcoming year. In total, there will be a minimum 70 games televised featuring Big Ten teams in 2013-14, 27 of which include the Spartans.
In conjunction with the release of the television schedule, a majority of game times have also been announced for the upcoming season.
Fox Sports Detroit will air 13 Spartan games, while BTN will carry seven contests. Comcast Television in Michigan will air five MSU games and ESPNU and ESPNews will each carry one.
Sixteen of the Spartans' 19 home games are currently slated to be televised, beginning with the Oct. 9 exhibition game against Western Ontario. The game will be one of nine that Fox Sports Detroit will broadcast from Munn Ice Arena. Fox Sports Detroit will also carry the 49th-annual Great Lakes Invitational, which will take place at Comerica Park as part of the Hockeytown Winter Festival.
Michigan State will make its first of seven appearances on BTN Jan. 10 at Ohio State. The network will also carry MSU road games at Minnesota on Jan. 31, at Penn State on Feb. 14 and at Wisconsin on Feb. 21.
Comcast Television in Michigan will air five Spartan games this fall. Comcast will air both games of Spartans' home sets with American International (Nov. 1, 3) and Princeton (Nov. 29, Dec. 1). Additionally, Comcast will broadcast the US Hockey Hall of Fame Game on Dec. 14 when MSU hosts Ferris State.
ESPNews will air MSU's final regular-season meeting against the Nittany Lions on Feb. 15 and ESPNU will carry the Feb. 22 game at Wisconsin.
BTN will provide live coverage of all five games of the inaugural Big Ten Tournament, slated for March 20-22, 2014 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.
