East Lansing, Mich. - Michigan State senior goaltender Jeff Lerg (Livonia, Mich.) has earned CCHA Goaltender of the Week honors on Monday, Oct. 27, as was released by the conference office. Lerg helped the Spartans to a four-point weekend against Northern Michigan at home; the teams skated to a 2-2 tie on Friday, and Michigan State captured its first shootout victory of the season, thanks in large part to Lerg stopping two of the three Wildcat shooters. On Saturday, Lerg made 28 saves in a 2-0 Spartan victory. This is the second time in three eligible weeks in which he has claimed the award.

He allowed two goals and made 52 saves last weekend, including making two critical saves in his first career collegiate shootout. His 52 weekend saves leaves him 10 shy of Michigan State's all-time career mark of 3,108, owned by Dave Versical. Lerg lowered his season GAA to 1.58 and his improved his save percentage to .947. His GAA ranks 16th nationally, while his save percentage finds him 10th among Division I netminders. He also ranks 10th nationally in total saves (142).

On Saturday, Lerg recorded his 11th career shutout. He sits in fourth place in the MSU annals in that category behind Ryan Miller (26), Dominic Vicari (16) and Chad Alban (12).

Lerg was also named the CCHA Goaltender of the Week on Monday, Oct. 6 after being named to the All-Tournament Team at the Icebreaker Tournament, hosted by Boston University.
